For generations, the Lusty family has welcomed visitors to York Harbor through a collection of businesses built on a shared passion for boating and hospitality. From the waterfront accommodations and dining at Dockside Guest Quarters & Restaurant to the trusted sales and service of York Harbor Marine, each reflects a long-standing commitment to exceptional service, family values, and the coastal Maine experience. Whether you’re arriving by land or sea, you’ll find a warm welcome, knowledgeable staff, and traditions that have been passed down through three generations.

Our History

The Dockside Guest Quarters and Restaurant began as a small marina and guest house on Harris Island. In 1953, David Lusty purchased the property, including a dilapidated 15-room house built around 1891, with plans to establish a marina. During the summer of 1954, Harriette Sibley joined the growing business, and the following year she and David were married.

Becoming a Maine Resort

As visiting yachtsmen frequently asked about accommodations and hot showers ashore, David and Harriette renovated the house into guest quarters. The response was so positive that travelers soon arrived by car as well as by boat. Over the next 20 years, they raised four sons, built a 90-seat restaurant, added four lodging buildings, and expanded to 25 guest rooms.

The Next Generation

Today, The Dockside remains a family-owned business led by the second generation of the Lusty family. After David and Harriette spent 35 years building and guiding the property, their children continued the tradition. The third generation is now actively involved as well, with family members working together every day across all areas of the business.
