Schedule a Free Vessel
Safety Check and have Breakfast with Us
Saturday, June 13th 9 AM - Noon
Would
Your Boat Pass a USCG Safety Check? YHMS invites you
to take advantage of free USGC Vessel Safety Checks (VSC) on
Saturday, June 13, between 9 AM and Noon. This is an easy way
to be sure you are in compliance with Coast Guard equipment
requirements and state, Federal, and local regulations. The
VSC will take 20-30 minutes to perform and the boat owner must
be present. YHMS will provide a complementary continental breakfast
at the marina to all who sign up. In addition, a
15% discount will be offered on all safety related items purchased
in the store that day and throughout the month of June.
Vessel
Examiners are trained and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary. The examiner will: verify the presence and condition
of specific safety equipment required by Federal, state and
local regulations; discuss the purpose and value of required
and optional marine safety equipment; answer any boating related
safety questions you may have; and make recommendations that
will help you have a safer boating experience. A 2009 Coast
Guard Safety Decal will be awarded if all requirements are met.
The decal does not exempt the boater from a law enforcement
boarding, but it does indicate that the boat has received a
VSC and the operator will be prepared for a more positive encounter
with a law enforcement officer. If there are any items that
do not meet requirements, the examiner will let you know how
to fix the problems, reschedule a second FREE safety check,
and award a decal when all problems are rectified. Vessel Safety
Checks assure boaters that they are ready for operating on the
water safely. If you can’t be with us on June 13 or would just
like to prepare for your VSC, the USCG boating safety website
offers a self-guided online safety check: go to http://www.uscgboating.org/safety/vsc.htm.
Please call or email office@yorkharbormarine.com
to schedule your VSC—we want to have enough examiners to cover
all who want to participate. And, we need to plan for breakfast!
If you have questions about the safety
checks or to schedule your free inspection, contact the marina
crew at 207-363-3602.
